Travelers Rest has always been a stop-over for travelers. The Travelers Rest Historical Society notes that in the late 1800s to mid 1900s the Swamp Rabbit Train made 13 stops in the upcountry to places such as Greenville, Marietta and of course Travelers Rest. Thus the history of the Swamp Rabbit Trail is born. In early 2010 The Swamp Rabbit rail line, long out of use, was converted to the Swamp Rabbit Trail with walking, running and biking, helping spark the economic resurgence of "TR" bringing the Swamp Rabbit Cafe, and even more shops, restaurants and tourism. Now your family can reside within walking distance of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. This newly built craftsman home has ALL main level living and Bonus room with walk in closet. Granite in kitchen/baths, laminated tongue and groove flooring in the foyer, great room, dining room and kitchen., ceramic tile flooring in baths. The well planned kitchen has a cozy space for breakfast area or technology center/home office space. A bright dining room has 3 windows overlooking the patio and fenced in yard. Gas log fireplace and picture frame moulding accents the warm wall color. Master suite and guest bath have double vanities. Plenty of storage in the over sized garage. Owners have recently added top of the line vinyl coated steel chain link fence/gate, custom made gutters/downspouts, large concrete patio for entertaining in back yard, expanded driveway with extra parking pad, and outbuilding for convenient yard and garden storage. Lifestyle and Attractions

With a population of about 5,000, Travelers Rest, known by locals as TR, is a small town on the rise. It is located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the larger city of Greenville, which is the primary city of this region. The town got its name from its position as a stop for travelers who would rest there in the early 1800s before a difficult journey into the mountains. Furman University is situated just south of the city limits, and Travelers Rest consequently enjoys a college town feel, as the campus is a source for entertainment, sports and other events. The community also hosts a number of annual events and festivals, including Art on the Trail, the Strawberry Festival and Country Fair, and more.

The Main Street area of Travelers Rest is dotted with restored historic buildings, new plantings, and streetlights, having received a facelift in recent years. Trailblazer Park is another downtown addition, serving as the site of the Travelers Rest Farmers Market, seasonal events, and outdoor concerts at the park’s outdoor amphitheater. Residents may access a number of state parks and other nearby destinations for outdoor recreation, including Paris Mountain State Park, with two lakes for fishing and boating, plus 15 miles of trails for hiking and biking. Travelers Rest is a popular destination for bikers, walkers and runners traveling along Swamp Rabbit Trail, which runs along the Reedy River from Greenville to Travelers Rest. Residents and visitors may learn about area history at the History Museum of Travelers Rest.

This small town located in the northern part of Greenville County began as a place where settlers arriving in Conestoga wagons would stop on their way through the mountains. Drovers from Kentucky and Tennessee on their way to South Carolina markets passed through Travelers Rest in the 1800s, along with their herds of cattle, sheep and hogs. As a result, taverns and inns sprang up in this area to accommodate these travelers. Lodging business picked up even more throughout the 1800s, as travelers continued to arrive by train after the introduction of the railroad.

Travelers Rest was incorporated twice, first in 1891 until the incorporation period expired 30 years later, and again in 1891, after residents petitioned to incorporate the city under its existing name.
