I became a real estate broker to make a difference in people's lives…it’s what I’ve done throughout my professional career. During my 40 years in the High Country, I’ve gained extensive experience both as a seller and buyer in dozens of real estate transactions. As a result, I know what it takes to make a transaction smooth and enjoyable from the beginning of the process to the end (and everything before and after!).
One of the most momentous events in most folks’ lives is the purchase or sale of their home. Whether you’re buying or selling, know that I will help guide you at every turn. To me, it’s all about service.
I was in public service for 20 years and customer service for 17 years before coming to real estate. In those careers I’ve provided exceptional service to thousands of people. I continue to offer that same level of service in my real estate practice.
Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, I developed a love for the Appalachian Mountains from an early age. I received a BS degree in Community Health Education from East Tennessee State University. Following graduation I worked with numerous public health agencies in Tennessee and Western North Carolina. While working full time, I earned a Master of Public Health Administration degree from the world renowned Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
I found the Blue Ridge Mountains to be a magical place on my first visit here in 1970 and couldn’t wait to start my life here! I was finally able to call the High Country home in 1979 and haven’t looked back since.
In 1988, my wife Mary and I bought a small retail business, Bare Essentials Natural Market in downtown Boone. We quadrupled the size of the operation in 1997 with a move to a new location on Boone Heights Drive. Following the move I assumed the responsibility of General Manager. Bare Essentials Natural Market became a community and business institution and resource during our ownership. In 2016, we sold the business and have remained active in religious, non-profit and business communities in the High Country.
Mary and I met in 1984 and have been married for 33 years. We’ve built four houses and remodeled one (and are still married!), all in the Aho Community (and all within a 3-mile radius of one another). Our dog Izzie (aka Izzie Bella, Lil’ Stinker, Tasmanian Devil Dog and Precious) is of undetermined pedigree, but she is likely a poodle/Jack Russell mix. She was rescued from the wild in Ashe County in 2015.
In the 40 years I’ve lived in Watauga County, I’ve served on Town of Boone committees and as a Board member of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, Board member and Chair of OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Service, Information and Shelter), Member and Past President of Boone Sunrise Rotary, Board member of Watauga Humane Society, member of An Appalachian Summer Festival Advisory Board, Board member of Watauga Community Foundation and Trustee of Boone United Methodist Church.
